چکیده

A two-step preconditioned iterative method based on the Hermitian/Skew-Hermitian splitting is applied to the solution of nonsymmetric linear systems arising from the Finite Element approximation of convection-diffusion equations. The theoretical spectral analysis focuses on the case of matrix sequences related to FE approximations on uniform structured meshes, by referring to spectral tools derived from Toeplitz theory. In such a setting, if the problem is coercive, and the diffusive and convective coefficients are regular enough, then the proposed preconditioned matrix sequence shows a strong clustering at unity, i.e., a superlinear preconditioning sequence is obtained. Under the same assumptions, the optimality of the PHSS method is proved and some numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results. Tests on unstructured meshes are also presented, showing the some convergence behavior.

On the Behavior of Combination High-Order Compact Approximations with Preconditioned Methods in the Diffusion-Convection Equation

In this paper, a family of high-order compact finite difference methods in combination preconditioned methods are used for solution of the Diffusion-Convection equation. We developed numerical methods by replacing the time and space derivatives by compact finitedifference approximations. The system of resulting nonlinear finite difference equations are solved by preconditioned Krylov subspace m...

Construction of Boundary Layer Elements for Singularly Perturbed Convection-diffusion Equations and L- Stability Analysis

It has been demonstrated that the ordinary boundary layer elements play an essential role in the finite element approximations for singularly perturbed problems producing ordinary boundary layers. Here we revise the element so that it has a small compact support and hence the resulting linear system becomes sparse, more precisely, block tridiagonal. We prove the validity of the revised element ...

Finite integration method with RBFs for solving time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, a modification of finite integration method (FIM) is combined with the radial basis function (RBF) method to solve a time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The FIM transforms partial differential equations into integral equations and this creates some constants of integration. Unlike the usual FIM, the proposed method computes constants of integ...

A posteriori error estimate for finite volume approximations of nonlinear heat equations

In this contribution we derive a posteriori error estimate for finite volume approximations of nonlinear convection diffusion equations in the L∞(L1)-norm. The problem is discretized implicitly in time by the method of characteristics, and in space by piecewise constant finite volume methods. The analysis is based on a reformulation for finite volume methods. The derived a posteriori error esti...
